Diagnostic Scanning
Where supported by the vehicle, diagnostic scanning can identify stored faults and warning-system information.
A scan cannot confirm the complete condition of every vehicle component. Faults may have been cleared before inspection, and some mechanical problems do not store diagnostic codes.
Scan results are considered alongside physical inspection and vehicle operation.
Truck and Commercial-Vehicle Inspections
Truck and commercial-vehicle inspection areas may include:
- Diesel-engine operation and visible leaks

- Transmission, clutch and driveline
- Steering and suspension
- Air or hydraulic brake components
- Chassis and accessible structural areas

The inspection scope must be agreed before booking, particularly for specialised equipment or combinations.
Written Inspection Findings
Inspection findings are recorded in a written report describing observed defects and areas requiring attention.
Where practical, findings can be separated into:
- Problems requiring prompt attention
- Maintenance that is due or approaching
- Items that require further dismantling or specialist testing
- General condition observations
A separate repair quote may be prepared where the required work and parts can be identified accurately.
Important Inspection Limitations
A pre-purchase inspection is limited to the vehicle’s condition and accessibility at the time of inspection.
It does not involve dismantling the engine, transmission or other sealed components unless separately authorised. It cannot predict every future failure or identify a fault deliberately concealed and not detectable during the available inspection.
The inspection does not replace independent finance, registration, ownership, written-off vehicle or security-interest checks.
Booking Requirements
The seller’s permission and access to the vehicle are required. Workshop inspection is preferred where lifting and diagnostic equipment are needed.
Provide the registration or VIN, make, model, year, engine, seller’s location and the intended purchase date when booking.
