Pre-Purchase Inspections for Cars and 4WDs in Gladstone

Pre-purchase inspections · Used cars and 4WDs

Know more before you buy.

Found a car or 4WD you like? Get an independent mechanical view before committing. Total Mobile Mechanical Services checks accessible vehicle condition, warning signs and likely maintenance, helping you understand what you are buying and which concerns deserve a closer look before the sale goes through.

Call with the vehicle, seller location and deadline. Our Calliope workshop at 6 Wright Road is the preferred inspection location; suitable mobile inspections can also be discussed.

Clear findings and inspection limits

Look beyond the clean paint and short test drive

An inspection brings the vehicle's physical condition, service history and operating behaviour together. The agreed scope depends on access, condition, seller permission and location. Suitable checks can cover these key areas.

Engine and cooling condition

Visible leaks, unusual noises, operating behaviour, cooling-system condition and overheating indicators. Fluid condition and service records help put the observations in context, including signs of overdue maintenance that may affect what you need to do after purchase.

Transmission, clutch and driveline

Accessible components and operating symptoms, including gear changes, clutch operation, noises and driveline concerns. Road-test observations can add useful information where seller permission, registration and the vehicle's condition allow the test to take place safely.

Brakes, steering and suspension

Brake condition, steering and suspension components, wheel bearings and visible underbody concerns within the available access. Wear or movement can be considered alongside the way the vehicle handles and any noises identified during the inspection.

Tyres and signs of previous work

Tyre condition, wear patterns and wheel observations, together with visible evidence of damage, repairs or poor modifications. These findings can flag a need for further mechanical investigation or an independent body assessment before you decide to buy.

Battery, electrical and warning lights

Starting, charging, visible electrical concerns, dashboard warnings and available diagnostic scan information. Qualified auto-electrical support helps consider relevant concerns, while detailed investigation of a known or intermittent fault may require a separate diagnostic booking.

4WD and towing equipment

Existing accessories, suspension changes, underbody condition, cooling and driveline observations relevant to work, towing or touring. Tell us how you plan to use the vehicle so the inspection can consider that use within its agreed scope.

Get information you can use in the buying decision

Check the vehicle against its story

A used vehicle can look tidy while showing developing leaks, suspension wear, cooling problems or evidence of repairs. We consider the physical observations beside its service records, fluid condition, warning lights and road behaviour. This helps identify issues that a short viewing may not reveal.

A scan is useful evidence, not a complete verdict. A vehicle can have mechanical wear without a warning light, and a stored code may relate to an earlier low battery or repaired fault. If a concern needs dismantling or extended testing, that limitation is explained rather than filled in with an assumption.

Give a used 4WD the right attention

A 4WD or tow vehicle may have carried heavy loads, travelled off road or spent long periods towing. Its underbody, suspension, tyres, cooling system, driveline and accessory wiring can provide useful clues about condition. Existing modifications also need to be considered as part of the vehicle you are buying.

Tell us whether you need it for a family runabout, work, towing or touring. We can look at relevant condition and raise concerns about further checks, but a pre-purchase inspection is not engineering certification and does not confirm legal payload or modification compliance.

Workshop access gives us a better view

Where the seller can bring the vehicle in, our Calliope workshop is usually the better option. Lifting the vehicle and using workshop equipment allows more thorough access than a driveway inspection. We can discuss the scope and arrangements before a booking is made.

A suitable mobile inspection may be possible when workshop attendance is impractical. Seller permission, access, surface conditions and weather affect what can be checked on site. Tell us about any restrictions early so you understand the inspection you are arranging.

Understand what the inspection can tell you

The findings describe condition and evidence available at the time. They cannot reveal every concealed defect, verify everything in the seller's history or predict every future failure. A component can fail later without having shown a detectable symptom during the inspection.

This is buyer information, not a Queensland Safety Certificate, roadworthy inspection, finance valuation, body-shop assessment or engineering approval. Those checks serve different purposes. Consider the findings alongside the asking price, service records, registration and any separate body or legal checks you need.

Leave time to act on what we find

An inspection is most useful before you commit to a deposit or complete the purchase. Arrange permission, keys, service records and enough access time with the seller. Have the make, model, registration or VIN where available, location and sale deadline ready when you call.

Tell us if the vehicle is unregistered, unsafe, unavailable for a road test or has a known fault needing attention. We can explain how that changes the scope. The report can then help you decide whether to proceed, negotiate known repairs, seek specialist testing or look for another vehicle.

Arrange the inspection before the sale

  1. Call with the details

Phone 0456 765 135 with the vehicle, seller location, intended use and purchase deadline.

  2. Confirm access and scope

Organise seller permission and workshop attendance or suitable mobile access, including any limits on testing.

  3. Review the findings

Use the inspection information to consider maintenance, repairs or further checks before making your purchase decision.

Gladstone, Calliope and surrounds.

We assist buyers across Gladstone, Calliope and surrounds, including Boyne Island, Tannum Sands, Mount Larcom, Benaraby and Miriam Vale. Our main workshop is in Calliope. Call with the seller's exact location to discuss workshop access or availability of a suitable mobile inspection.

Pre-purchase inspection questions

Can you inspect a vehicle at the seller's location?

Suitable mobile inspections may be available. We need to confirm permission, access, surface conditions and the required inspection scope. Workshop access is preferred where the seller can bring the vehicle in.

Why is a workshop inspection usually more thorough?

The vehicle can be lifted and checked with workshop equipment, giving better access to components than a typical driveway inspection. We can explain the practical difference when arranging the booking.

Does the inspection include a diagnostic scan?

Available scan information can be considered where relevant. It is assessed alongside physical condition and operating behaviour; extended diagnosis of a known or intermittent fault may need its own booking.

Is this a Safety Certificate or roadworthy inspection?

No. A pre-purchase inspection provides information for a buyer. It is separate from a Queensland Safety Certificate or statutory roadworthy inspection.

Can you guarantee there are no hidden or future faults?

No inspection can make that promise. We report the condition and evidence accessible at the time and explain limitations or concerns that require further testing.
